After an 11 hour flight we arrived in Cape Town which is a fascinating city. The vibrant nightlife of the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, the stunning views from the top of Table Mountain and the humbling experience of Robyn Island. The 90-mile scenic tour of the Cape Peninsula takes in Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point is a must, as well as a visit to the wine lands to sample fine vintages of wine and explore the historic towns of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek.

For relaxation the Cape Town region offers excellent beaches, golf courses, walking trails and for the gourmet, restaurants serving fine Cape cuisine.

From Cape Town we drove along the 'Garden Route' taking in the stunning scenery and the numerous places of interest en route, with the mountains on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other. Between August and November there is every chance of seeing the whale migration.

However, the highlight of my trip was a short stay at a Private Game Reserve on the edge of Kruger National Park. The standard of accommodation, service and the food at Mala Mala was first class. The rangers were excellent and in 2 days we saw the 'big 5' as well as a wealth of other wildlife and managed to take some wonderful photos. Mala Mala is one of a number of Private Game Reserves in the area offering a truly memorable safari experience!
